Experiencing Jannah

Naturally when thinking about Jannah the thoughts that come to mind would be of peace, tranquillity and pleasure in which we work hard to attain the standard and rulings Allah has bestowed upon us that we must abide. Throughout the quran there are numerous narrations on what we would expect to see, feel, and hear, some evidence to support this are as follows;

AL-BAQRAH (The Cow) 2:25
But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits there from, they say: “Why, this is what we were fed with before,” for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).

Within this verse, the fruits of Jannah will not be exotic in appearance as to be unfamiliar to people. They will resemble the fruits to which human beings are accustomed in this world, though infinitely excelling them in delicacy of taste. In appearance they may resemble, say mangoes, pomegranates and oranges the best of exotic fruits and the people of Jannah will be able to identify them as such. In taste however, there will be no comparison between the fruits we have here and the heavenly fruits. So not only is this something we see and touch but also something we taste, and that of which describes the true differentiating significance. Furthermore to what we see it mentions the heavenly Gardens and rivers that create a natural calming view let alone a feeling to how Jannah can be imagined. Exploration amongst this hadith combined with others show how; gardens of Jannah will not be the gardens we have here. The extravagance and stunning atmospheric surrounding is so great to some extent that we may not even be able to comprehend the beauty that awaits us. Furthermore to the sound of tranquillity and it states the river on how it will provide a soothing touch not only to the ears by which we hear but also with the eyes that we see.

MARYAM (Mary) 19:61
Gardens of Eternity, those which (Allah) Most Gracious has promised to His servants in the Unseen: for His promise must (necessarily) come to pass.

MARYAM (Mary) 19:62
They will not there hear any vain discourse, but only salutations of Peace: And they will have therein their sustenance, morning and evening.

MARYAM (Mary) 19:63
Such is the Garden which We give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who guard against Evil.

When talking about the Gardens here, it refers to which has been promised to the believers of Allah, Gardens which are beyond the ken of their senses. Again the vast amazing beauty that will be displayed so pleasing to the eye that one can only strive his hardest to attain just by reading and listening about it. Furthermore the word used here ‘salam’ denoted that which is free from all flaws and imperfections. Of numerous blessings bestowed on man in Jannah, some of the prevailing atmospheres in Jannah will be one of elegance and decency and all its inmates will be of people who are possessed of good taste. Hence all those in Jannah will hear only good and decent and not the slander and abuse.

“When you pray ask for Firdaws, for it is in the middle of Jannah and is higher in grade than the Jannah and above Firdaws is Allah’s throne, moreover the rivers of Jannah flow from Firdaws.” (Bukhari)

Above is another narration of which had been mentioned upon the sweet sounding rivers and delicate surrounding and design by which Allah has placed the heavens by those who attain more and better deeds on the dunya, should then be rewarded with the better in the akhira.

AT- TAWBAH (Repentance) 9:72
Allah has promised to Believers, men and women, gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in gardens of ‘And (Eden; Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the good pleasure of Allah that is the supreme success.

Allah describes the joys of eternal delight He has prepared for the believers men and women ‘and beautiful mansions’, built beautifully in good surroundings. We can use this description to comprehend in our minds for aiming to attain the akhira but just by reading this verse it creates a vision of how the senses work to what we will see, smell and feel, enabling us to visualise the outcome for the test we have in this dunya.

MUHAMMED 47:15
(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?

With the verse above, with the sighting of the descriptions would only allow us to dream of actually seeing something so naturally flowing such as water and replaced with the rivers of sweet taste, to see not only a luxurious scene but then once tasted, they will be a flavour of each with the best quality. For example the milk is of the utmost whiteness, sweetness and richness. It has been mentioned in a Hadith from the Prophet SAW ‘The milk did not come out of the udders of cattle.’ And referring to the wine, it does not have bad taste or foul smell like that of the worldly life. Rather, it is good in its appearance, taste, smell and effect as Allah says, ‘it (the wine) has no bad effects, nor does it cause intoxication’. And From which (the wine) they have will have no headache, nor will it be intoxicated.

AL-KAHF (The Cave) 18:31
For them will be Gardens of Eternity; beneath them rivers will flow; they will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold, and they will wear green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade: They will recline therein on raised thrones. How good the recompense! How beautiful a couch to recline on!

Amongst the past kings used to wear bracelets of gold. This has been mentioned with regard to the people of Paradise to emphasise that the believers will be made to don a royal dress so as to honour them. Thus the situation of the Hereafter will be altogether different from what it is in the present world. The above narration from the Quran shows a few examples of materialistic objects we really don’t need today but how we will gain access to them in the akhira as our reward for what we do today. We’ll see the beautiful garments that we are able to use and how we don’t just get anything but will be aloud to wear the best of quality. Thrones to be sat on with not pride but humbleness as it is one of the gifts from Allah that we strive for when looking to be accepted into Jannah. This is not something we just see though, it is also the way we react with it for example in how it is used and the feeling we get physically but also mentally.

AL- HAJJ (The pilgrimage) 22:23
Allah will admit those who believe and work righteous deeds, to Gardens beneath which rivers flow: they shall be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls; and their garments there will be of silk.

This means that these rivers flow throughout its regions, beneath its trees and palaces, and its inhabitants direct them to go wherever they want, which then lead to other areas spreading over the vast lands equally without sound to be heard but something to be felt inside i.e. tranquillity. And the bracelets to be felt with a up beating lift to the inner mind which is worn on their arms, as the Prophet SAW said in the agreed – upon hadith ‘The jewellery of the believer (in Paradise) will reach as far as him wudu reached.’ Then leading onto the garments of paradise by means of which in a sahih, ‘Abdullah bin Zubayr said, ‘Those who do not wear silk in the hereafter are those who will not enter Paradise.’’

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:40
But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,-

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:41
For them is a Sustenance determined,

Meaning the receiving of Paradise

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:42
Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity,

Meaning the different kinds and they will be served and will live a life of luxury.

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:43
In Gardens of Felicity,

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:44
Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity):

Mujahid said, ‘One of them will not look at one another’s backs.’

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:45
Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain,

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:46
Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof),

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:47
Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication there from.

Allah refined the wine of Paradise from the bad effects of the wine of this world, which causes headaches and stomach aches which is the meaning of Ghawl, causing people to loose their minds completely. And then the wine from a flowing stream which they do not fear will ever be cut off or cease. And the white flowing wine is a bright shining colour unlike what is seen today and as good taste.

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:48
And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty).

Women who will not look at anyone, other then their husbands and the eyes so beautiful means with beautiful eyes, it was also means their eyes being beautiful and chaste.

AS – SAAFFAT (Those who set the ranks, drawn up in ranks) 37:49
As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded.

Another word for this would be hidden pearls meaning as they would never be touched by any hands.

AZ – ZUMAR (The troops, throngs) 39:20
But it is for those who fear their Lord. That lofty mansions, one above another, have been built: beneath them flow rivers (of delight): (such is) the Promise of Allah. Never doth Allah fail in (His) promise.

This addresses that whoever is to be lead astray then that is what Allah has decreed for that person but at the same time Allah tells us that has blessed servants will have lofty rooms in Paradise, story upon story, i.e. solidly constructed adorned and high.

AZ – ZUMAR (The troops, throngs) 39:72
(To them) will be said: “Enter ye the gates of Hell, to dwell therein: and evil is (this) Abode of the Arrogant!”

AZ – ZUMAR (The troops, throngs) 39:73
And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Garden in crowds: until behold, they arrive there; its gates will be opened; and its keepers will say: “Peace be upon you! Well have ye done! Enter ye here, to dwell therein.”

AZ – ZUMAR (The troops, throngs) 39:74
They will say: “Praise be to Allah, Who has truly fulfilled His Promise to us, and has given us (this) land in heritage: We can dwell in the Garden as we will: how excellent a reward for those who work (righteousness)!”

Here Allah tells us about the blessed believers who will be taken to paradise in groups, one group after another, starting with the ones who are closest to Allah, so on and so forth. Then they will arrive at the gates passing over the Sirat. ‘They will be discussing amongst, Muhammed SAW, Adam, Nuh, Musa, Ibrahim and Isa on who is to enter in what and to what stage they pass their judgments.’

AZ – ZUMAR (The troops, throngs) 39:75
And thou wilt see the angels surrounding the Throne (Divine) on all sides, singing Glory and Praise to their Lord. The Decision between them (at Judgment) will be in (perfect) justice, and the cry (on all sides) will be, “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!”

This is where Allah is telling us is how he will split the people of hell and paradise in judgment in justice suited to each individual and how the angles surround his magic Throne, glorifying and praising Allah to pass judgment in the fairest of ways. ‘And they will be judged’ meaning all of creation.

Assalamualaykum all..

so many of you have may realised that this blog isnt just for my art, rather I use it to update on things I have read and thought subhanAllah, what a wonderful read, so I place it into my blog so that others can benefit aswell inshAllah. And as you know if I have not written the piece I do mention it. But subhanAllah iv been doing a lot of learning recently. All I seem to want to do nowadays is study the deen so that I am able to educate myself for the sake of Allah and then pass it onto others inshAllah.

Alhamdulillah I am really enjoying the strive I make to learn more, at times it can be a bit bothersome to get to the course but to know and remember for every step one takes for the sake of Allah and to gain knowledge then they will be rewarded.

SubhanAllah its amazing how much one can learn there is so much. Recently an uncle of mine in his mid 40′s attended an al kauthar course with me and subhanAllah now hes hooked. This is the blessing of Allah and once you make that first step the attachment and drive to seek knowledge will only increase.

I dont think I could imagine myself not going to my courses anymore, otherwise there will be an empty gap in my heart and I would really feel it. Its just a part of me. Recently I went to two courses taught by Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury and it really is amazing to realise how much YOU DONT KNOW and HOW MUCH THERE IS TO GAIN. All these courses, the material is not just for you to attend the course then leave it in the book and not go back to it. The best way to remember and implement it is to go through it and practice it inshAllah. Alhamdulillah not am i only benefiting from it through that route but I am starting to teach what I have gained and its such good practice and you only want to learn and practice more.

And inshAllah in due time as I finish university this summer I shall continue with my Islamic studies and teach more. One can make so many plans, its with the right intention is what gets you through them.

On the note of my art, as you may have noticed I havnt done any in a while. This is due to being so busy with final year university work so inshAllah when I get the chance ill get back into it.

Jazaks for reading, remember me in your duas inshAllah..

The Pearl Necklace
Abu Bakr Muhammad
[compiled by Abdul Haq Muhammad]

Qazi Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Abdul Baqi Ansari is an illustrious personality of Islamic History. He was the most pious person of his time. Even after the lapse of nine centuries, his exemplary life is a source of guidance to Muslims. His biographers tell a number of tales of his honesty and reliability but the one that affected his whole life is full of strange and unique events. He has narrated this story in his own words and it adorns the pages of history books.

“In the middle of the 5th century Hijri, I was a student of the Holy Quran and Hadith in Makkah. During that period, I once became jobless and my means of income came to an end. I managed, somehow, to subsist for a few days but soon it became hard to obtain even two square meals. My studies were discontinued and I had to sell a few of my books to support myself. I was at the edge of starvation but my feelings of self-respect did not allow me to borrow or beg from anybody.

One day, I was hungry, as usual. I went to the Holy Ka’bah to pray to Almighty Allah to save me from my sad plight. On my way back, I saw a velvet cloth pouch lying near the road edge. I picked it up. It was nicely sewn and neatly tied with a silk cord. I looked around to find its owner but the road was deserted and nobody was in sight. I carried the pouch to my house.

I was curious to know the contents of the small bag. As I untied the cord, a very precious necklace of pearls slipped into my hand. The luster of the spotless pearls almost lit my room. The pearls of different sizes were nicely put together in a string of crimson colored silk. It was a radiant beauty and I was thrilled to hold the valuable ornament. For a moment, I altogether forgot the hungry and pitiable state in which I was. My thoughts went to the unfortunate owner who had lost the precious jewelry. He must be unhappy and very worried due to his great loss. The course of action which I instantly decided on was to look for the owner and give him back his necklace to relieve him of this mental suffering. It never came to my mind to keep it wrongfully in my possession. So I set out to search for him. Leaving the bag behind, I went straight to the place were it was found.

A group of excited men were standing there and were busy in anxious conversation. I went close to them. Their topic of discussion was the missing pouch of pearls. An old man whose nobility and magnanimity was evident from his imposing personality, was standing amidst them. He was explaining the loss of his pearls to the attentive audience and was announcing a reward of five hundred gold coins to the person who could help him in recovering the lost necklace.

I listened to his account of the loss very carefully. When I was sure of his ownership, I held his hand gently and requested him to come along with me. He looked at me very hopefully and without asking any questions, he followed me. On the way back to my house, I was delightfully thinking that a handsome amount of five hundred dinars would be mind after a short while. The very thought of getting a reward of that much money was very pleasing. I was wondering whether my miseries would be over. I would no longer be a hungry or poor person. With such happy ideas in my mind, I entered my house and also invited the old man to come in.

When we sat down, I asked my perplexed guest about some marks of identification of his lost bag, so that his ownership could be established beyond doubt. He readily explained the shape and color of the pouch. He told me about its contents and gave an exact count of the pearls. He even described the tying cord. It convincingly proved that he was the rightful owner of the bag and the necklace of pearls. I silently rose and brought out the necklace pouch. As he saw it, his gloomy expression at once changed. His shining eyes beamed with joy and he looked at me with sincere gratefulness. His pleasant glance of thanks impressed me, and my own mode of thinking suddenly changed.

A little earlier, I was enjoying the idea of getting a good reward but now my mind was reasoning as to what I had actually done to deserve it. It was by sheer chance that the bag had came into my possession. I had exerted no efforts to obtain it. Therefore, why did I expect to get a reward for returning it to its rightful owner? But I was actually in dire need of money. My poverty and the grim realities of life were looking me in the face. Why shouldn’t I accept the reward? It was absolutely legitimate and surely there was no harm in taking it. A painful conflict of indecision was going on within me and I was in an uneasy state of double mindedness.

The noble old man was looking at the necklace again and again as to assure himself of its recovery. He then looked at me and said, “O dear me, you are a virtuous person and I thank you from the core of my heart. I am unable to express fully my feelings of gratitude for your act of praiseworthy conduct. Nevertheless, I offer you a purse of five hundred dinars as a humble present and request you to kindly accept it.”

He then placed in front of me a purse full of gold coins. A conflicting struggle of ideas was still going on in my mind. The sight of money which was within my easy reach was very tempting but I checked myself and said, “Sir, I thank you for offering me a substantial amount as a reward but it is impossible for me to accept it.”

“Why not?” asked my noble guest, “You justly deserve the reward because I am giving it entirely of my own free will. I gladly give it to you as a humble token of my gratitude. Please do not dishearten me by refusing it.” I replied, “Sir, I cannot even think of being rude to decline your kind offer, but it is certainly improper for me to take it without doing anything to earn it. The necklace is yours and I happened to find it only by chance. Its restoration to you does not entitle me to take anything in return. Please do not insist on me to accept what is not morally due to me.”

He was rather surprised by my firm refusal. Normally people yearn for money but I was adamantly declining it. He said, “My son! It is a virtue to be an honest person but the money which is being offered to you is not disallowed by our faith. It is not prohibited to offer or accept such presents. Therefore, I request you to reconsider your unrealistic stand and keep that purse for the sake of my pleasure if not for anything else.”

I said, “Sir, I do not at all intend to displease you, but the pleasure of Almighty Allah is more important to be reckoned with than your or my pleasure. If there is any good in my action, I will prefer to leave the matter to His Grace for compensation, which I do not want to risk for all the riches of this world. Kindly do not insist because I am determined not to accept any undue reward.” My guest collected his pouch and purse and stood much dejectedly to leave. He patted me on the back and left without a word.

After a week or so, I got back my previous job. My days of deprivation and hunger were over. I rejoined my classes and forgot all about the incident in my busy schedule of daily routine. I exerted all of my energy to acquire knowledge of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. My main subject of interest was Islamic Jurisprudence. I completed my studies with a distinction.

On the recommendation of my tutor, I was offered an appointment as Qazi of Qurtaba, (Cordova) the capital city of Haspaniyah (presently known as Spain). I readily accepted the post and started to prepare myself very happily for the long journey. I took leave of my colleagues and went to the port of Jeddah to embark on the ship for my destination. I boarded a merchant ship to carry me to the land of my future hopes.

For the first few days, the voyage was smooth and very enjoyable. Then suddenly a violent storm of severe intensity overtook us and the ship was engulfed by stormy waves. The mountain high waves tossed the ship around like a tiny toy. The masts were broken and the sails torn. A mighty wave crushed the ship and wrecked it completely. A few screams were heard and it was all over. I saw some floating boards and a few victims of the crash swimming around trying to save their lives. They were the only survivors of the hapless ship who were drifting over the ocean surface. When I recovered from the shock, I found myself clinging to a plank and moving with it at the mercy of the waves.

After drifting for two days, in a semi-conscious state, the waves tossed me upon the shore. I thanked Almighty Allah for saving me from the jaws of death. I was so weak that I couldn’t move. I helplessly lay there exposed to the scorching heat of the burning rays of the sun. I crawled to the dim shadows of a thorny bush. I lost track of time and was in a state between dizziness and heavy slumber.

After some time, I slightly opened my eyes and saw a few strange faces staring at me. They poured a few drops of water into my mouth and I came out of my oblivion but was still unable to speak. They made up a stretcher and carried me to a nearby town. When we approached near it, the first man-made thing which caught my eye was a towering minaret of a Masjid. I thanked Allah for being among my own brethren of faith.

They took me to a house belonging to one of them and laid me on a comfortable bed. With proper care, feeding, and treatment, I soon regained my lost energy. I told my kind host all about myself and the mishap of the ship wreck. My host, whose name was Faleh Hasan, informed me that I was in Hodeida, a coastal town of Yemen. The tract where I was luckily found was a desolate region and was a less treaded part of the coast. Faleh Hasan and his friends noticed a few vultures circling over the area, so they went to investigate and found me there in an unconscious state. He introduced me to his friends and I expressed my heartful thanks for saving my life. Due to their loving concern, I was soon normal, both mentally and physically.

I began to attend Masjid to offer my regular prayers and there I came to know many persons of nobility and of high-ranking positions. They all knew my unhappy episode through my host and treated me with understanding and respect. One of them was the aged and pious Sheikh Ahmad bin Suhail who usually led the prayers. He always greeted me with fatherly affection which touched me to the heart.

One day, he was a little late to arrive to the Masjid, so the people requested me to lead the prayers. My hesitation and excuses proved to be useless before their sincere appeals. That day I performed the duties of Imam. I did my best to recite clearly the Verses of the Holy Qur’an during the prayer and afterwards delivered a brief sermon on Islamic Law. Everyone seemed to be highly impressed. Sheikh Ahmad bin Suhail came forward and congratulated me on my excellent performance. I thanked him for his appreciation and encouragement. I came back to the house of my host filled with delight and self-confidence.

But later, I had sometimes thought that I had overstayed my welcome. So after the evening prayers, I stated my intention of leaving, but my host disagreed with me. He wanted me to stay for a few more days to recoup my health fully. At night, when I was going to bed, Sheikh Ahmad bin Suhail came with a few respectable people of the town. The friends of Faleh Hasan, who were my saviors, were also with them. When the preliminary formalities of greeting each other were over and all were comfortably seated, Sheikh Ahmad turned his eyes towards me and said, “Dear Abu Bakr, I have been honored by these gentlemen to speak to you, on behalf of them, about their commendable wish. I expect, you will please assent to it.”

I was perplexed by that kind of address. So I said nervously, “Sir, you are very helpful and kind to me. I cannot disregard any of your commands or wishes. You can order me to do anything and it will be an honor for me to obey it.”

He said, “Dear son, we all earnestly desire you to stay here with us forever. The regular Imam of our Masjid had died last year. We still mourn his death and perhaps will do so forever. His respect is deeply rooted in our hearts. He had enlightened our lives with the torch of knowledge. We wish you to take his place and consent to be our Imam. We may not be able to offer you a better paid position than that of the Qazi in Qurtaba, but we will surely give you our love, affection, and respect.”

“But Sir,” I protested, “I am a fresh, inexperienced student and feel small to carry out the sacred duties of the high office of Imam.” The Sheikh said, “My son, do not underestimate yourself. We all have heard your recitiation and sermon, and are fully convinced of your ability to fulfill those responsibilities.”

Before I could think of any evasive answer, my host, Faleh Hasan, and his friends vehemently backed up the proposal. I was left with no other alternative but to nod in affirmative. Everybody was pleased with my decision, especially Sheikh Ahmad who thanked me and kissed my forehead. They all rose to leave and thanking me individually, departed very happy.

They left me thinking how the secret hands of fate change the course of destiny in a secret manner. Circumstances secretly take such a turn that they altogether change the plans made up by man. I had cherished the hope of being a Qazi of Qurtaba and had taken steps to attain that goal, but preordained events made me an Imam of the Masjid in Hodeida.

So a new phase in my life began. I took charge of the imposed position and shifted to the assigned house of the Imam. I restarted the primary school that had closed due to the sad demise of the former Imam. I also commenced evening classes to impart lessons to explain the meaning of the Holy Qur’an.

I completely adjusted myself to the new environment and people generally accepted me as their religious leader. I was very contented and never for a moment regretted my decision to settle there. All the people, young and old alike, were happy and respected me. The feelings of any estrangement all faded away and I became as if I was one of them for ages.

One day, Sheikh Ahmad came to me and after enquiring about my welfare, said, “Dear Abu Bakr, your services to our townsmen are praiseworthy and beyond our expectations. I am glad that you had accepted our offer of staying with us. Now I have come to you to ask one more favor.”

I said, “Sir, I am at your service. Please tell me and I will comply with your order.”

He said, “Dear son, a man is not perfect without his partner of life. I want you to marry and take full advantage of life. Marriage is also a sacred Sunna of our Holy Prophet. The sweet marital responsibilities are a real blessing which have been conferred onto man.”

I replied, “Sir, you have always advised me in my best interest. I take you as a father to me and in this matter also, I will follow you counsel.”

The Sheikh said, “Your predecessor, the late Imam of this Masjid was a very close friend of mine. He had a daughter, and when he was sure of his end, he entrusted her to my protection and care. Since then she has been under my guardianship. She is a lovely and adorable girl of good manners. Allah has endowed her with physical and mental beauty. She is virtuous and is a suitable match for you. I wish to give her in marriage to you and I feel sure that it will be a marriage of true minds.”

I had no objection to the proposal whatsoever. A few days later, the bonds of marriage united us. After the festive ceremonies were over, Sheikh Ahmad escorted her to my house that was in fact her old abode where she had lived with her late father. I looked at her and my gaze was concentrated steadily on her. I forgot to even say welcome to her. I was not only looking at her beautiful and charming face, and at her downcast eyes; but my glance was riveted upon her pretty neck, which was ornamented by precious pearls. I at once recognized that necklace. It was the same necklace that I once found on a deserted road of Makkah. I looked at her in silent and open-mouthed wonder.

Sheikh Ahmad noticed my confused condition and thought that her beauty and the luster of the pearls had enchanted me. He politely said, “Dear Abu Bakr, that necklace and its wearer, both are yours now and you can take all your time to behold them. It may, perhaps, interest you to know that the necklace has a strange story of its own. Five years ago, my friend went to Makkah for pilgrimage and took that necklace with him to get it re-polished. There, he lost it. But due to the goodness of an honest young man, he recovered it intact. That commendable young man refused to sell his honesty and declined the pressing offer of a handsome reward. He left a lasting impression upon my friend who always remembered and talked about him. He once confided to me that he had a mind to go to Makkah again and ask that virtuous young man to accept the hand of his daughter, but time did not allow him to do so. Anyhow, it was destined differently. His daughter was to become your wife instead of his. The decreed decisions of fate are strange and beyond the understanding of man.”

An emotional storm erupted within me. The strange happenings of the fateful events which were unfolded by the hidden hands of destiny agitated me and drops of tears rolled down my cheeks; I looked towards Sheikh Ahmad through misty eyes and said, “Dear Sir, you are very right to say that insight into the unknown mysteries of fate is not possible. It would perhaps be a pleasant surprise to know that I am the same person who found the necklace and restored it to your friend. He, in return, offered me an amount of five hundred dinars. Although I was a pauper and was suffering from the agonies of hunger in those days, my conscience did not allow me to accept anything that was not my due. I pinned all my hopes and expectations of Almighty Allah for any reward. And here I am with His gracious and greatest reward of all.”

Sheikh Ahmad was amazed and without saying a word, he held my hand and shook it was a passion. My newly wedded wife lifted her eyes and looked me full in the face. Her eyes were filled with enthusiastic love that any husband ever could desire for. Almighty Allah had bestowed upon me His favors by giving me a considerate and loving wife and nothing in life surpasses that bliss.”

“The pillars of Kufr (i.e. disbelief and disobedience) are Four:

1. Kibr i.e. arrogance, which prevents him from submission, (to the command of Allah)
2. Hasad i.e. jealousy, which prevents him from accepting advice and giving it.
3. Ghadab i.e. anger, which prevents him from being just.
4. Sha`wah i.e. lowly desires, which prevents him from devoting himself totally to worship.

Hence, if the pillar of arrogance is removed then it becomes easy to submit, and if the pillar of jealousy is removed then it becomes easy for him to accept naseehah (i.e. advice) and to give advice. If the pillar of anger is removed then it becomes easy for him to be just and humble himself and if the pillar of lowly desires is removed then it becomes easy for him to be patient, chaste and devote himself to worship. Every imprudent characteristic derives from these four. And when these characteristics settle in his heart they will cause him to see falsehood as truth and to see truth as falsehood. To see Ma`roof (i.e. good) as Munkar (i.e. evil) and evil as good, and it brings him closer to the life of this world and pushes the hereafter further from him.

Uprooting strong and power mountains from their places is easier than removing these four characteristics from the heart of an individual who is tested with them. This proves especially true when these characteristics become firmly rooted and embedded in an individual to the point they become second nature, for when an individual reaches this point it is almost impossible for him to do any good deeds, nor would he purify himself with them if he were to perform any acts of good. The more he strives diligently to perform acts of good the more his actions are corrupted by these four characteristics.

If you reflect on the disbelief of the past nations, you will find that it derived from one of these four pillars, and it was due to one of these four that they were punished. However, the severity of the punishment was dependant on the degree and extent of these pillars with those nations. So, whoever adorns himself with these pillars then he subjects himself to all types of evil consequences, in the life of this world and in the hereafter. And whoever avoids them, distances himself from all types of evil, because these characteristics prevent him from Inqiyad (i. e. submission), Ikhlas (i.e. sincerity), Tawbah (i.e. repentance), accepting the truth, giving advice to the Muslims and humbling himself to Allah and to His creation.

These characteristics emerge due to the slave`s ignorance of his Lord, and his ignorance of his own self-worth or value. If he truly knew his Lord with all of His lofty characteristics and was truly aware of his own short-comings and deficiencies, he would not have a reason to be arrogant nor seek retribution for himself, nor would he be jealous of anyone because of what Allah has given them, because in reality, jealousy is a type of enmity or hostility towards Allah, primarily because the slave hates the fact that Allah has bestowed upon one of his servants a particular blessing and he ardently desires that this blessing be taken away from him. So he actually oppose and contests the decree of Allah and he deems the blessing of Allah to this slave to be unjust and dislikes for him what Allah loves for him. And it was because of this characteristic that Iblis became the enemy of Allah, i.e. his arrogance and jealousy.

Hence, to replace these two hideous and evil characteristics with sound knowledge of Allah and His uniqueness and being pleased with Him as your Lord and turning towards Him for assistance in all of his affairs, and replacing anger with true knowledge of himself and his value, and the fact that he does not have the right to get angry and seek retribution for himself, because in this is giving precedence to himself over the pleasure of his Lord and expressing anger towards his Lord, who originated him.

And the greatest thing which would assist him in ridding himself of this characteristic is to condition himself to get angry for the pleasure of Allah and to be pleased for the pleasure of Allah. And every time he gets angry or is pleased for the pleasure of Allah then anger and pleasure for other than Him will be obliterated, and the opposite is the same.

However, the cure for his lowly desires is sound knowledge and understanding that his obedience to his lowly desires is the greatest reason or hindrance for him attaining satisfaction, and his abstaining from these lowly desires is the greatest reason and means by which he can attain satisfaction. So every time he sets out to attain satisfaction by following his lowly desires he actually pushes himself further away from achieving this satisfaction, and the more he avoids his lowly desires, the closer he is to attaining the satisfaction he is looking for in the most complete manner.

So Ghadab (i.e. anger) is like a predator, the minute you turn your attention away from it, it will eat you alive.

And Shah`wah (i.e. lowly desires) is like fire, the moment he ignites it, it will begin to burn him alive.

And Kibr (i.e. arrogance) is like arguing with a king about his possession, either he will kill you because of this, or just deprive you of it.

And Hasad (i.e jealousy) is like showing enmity and hatred towards someone who is more powerful than you.

The one who can control his lowly desires and his anger will remove the Shaytan from his midst. And the he whose lowly desires and anger overtakes him deprives himself from the shade and protection of Allah.

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Every single Muslim sins, none of us are free from this. Yet Allah in His Infinite Mercy constantly provides us with opportunities shed our burden, to clear our slate and to help put us back on course for the Jannah. Opportunities like this are abundant as Allah says:

“Allah desires to lighten you (from your burden), and mankind was created weak…[4:28]

I signed up for the Muslim Aid and Oxfam Sunset Walk. If you want a quick and easy way to purify your sins and raise your status in the Sight of Allah in this blessed month then please sponsor me. Even £1 is more than sufficient, it may be all we need to ward off the Fire on that stressful day.

Help those who don’t have the water you drink when you hear the adhan. Help those who have less than that single date you open your fast with. Help those who don’t even have that family upon whose unconditional love and support helped make you the person you are now.

ALWAYS remember one thing. Charity is not a one way deal. You don’t spend and get nothing back. It is a business transaction with Allah, and what a transaction it is such that what you get back is infinitely better and greater than what you gave. What awaits you in the hereafter for it…….is something that Allah has promised will make our jaws drop.

Let us also inshaAllah revive the (possible forgotten) sunnah of giving charity in secret. A sincere secret good deed is beloved to Allah. Today we live in a world full of people with over inflated egos and personalities. Prevalent among both Non-Muslims and even the most so-called practising Muslims, who will often rarely do something unless people are there to praise them, stroke their egos, give them a pat on the back for it and discuss their life in the media. Allah is not in need of such people nor of their fake acts. Here is your chance to give and to give in secret inshaAllah. The satisfaction of doing an act purely for the Sake of Allah such that only you and Him know it, is unmatchable.

May Allah bring us all together in the highest gardens

of the Paradise, Ameen!!

So if you would like to join me then inshAllah sign up…

Sermon on the Last Friday of Sha’ban on the Reception of the
 Month of Ramadan.

“O People!
Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month
of blessing, mercy and forgiveness. A month which with Allah is the best
of months. Its days, the best of days, its nights, the best of nights,
and its hours, the best of hours. It is the month which invites you to
be the guests of Allah and invites you to be one of those near to Him.
Each breath you take glorifies him; your sleep is worship, your deeds
are accepted and your supplications are answered. So, ask Allah, your
Lord; to give you a sound body and an enlightened heart so you may be
able to fast and recite his book, for only he is unhappy who is devoid
of Allah’s forgiveness during this great month. Remember the hunger and
thirst of the day of Qiyamah (Judgement) with your hunger and thirst;
give alms to the needy and poor, honour your old, show kindness to the
young ones, maintain relations with your blood relations; guard your
tongues, close your eyes to that which is not permissible for your
sight, close your ears to that which is forbidden to hear, show
compassion to the orphans of people, so compassion may be shown to your
orphans. Repent to Allah for your sins and raise your hands in dua
during these times, for they are the best of times and Allah looks
towards his creatures with kindness, replying to them during the hours
and granting their needs if he is asked …"

“O People!
Indeed your souls are dependant on your deeds, free it with Istighfar
(repentance) lighten its loads by long prostrations; and know that
Allah swears by his might: That there is no punishment for the one who
prays and prostrates and he shall have no fear of the fire on the day
when man stands before the Lord of the worlds."

“O People!
One who gives Iftaar to a fasting person during this month will be like one
who has freed someone and his past sins will be forgiven. Some of the
people who were there then asked the Prophet (s): “Not all of us are
able to invite those who are fasting?”

The Prophet replied:
“Allah gives this reward even if the Iftaar (meal) is a drink of
water.” “One who has good morals (Akhlaq) during this month will be
able to pass the ‘Siraat’ … on the day that feet will slip … “One who
covers the faults of others will benefit in that Allah will curb His
anger on the day of Judgement … “As for one who honour an orphan; Allah
will honour him on the day of judgement, “And for the one who spreads
his kindness, Allah will spread His mercy over him on the day of
Judgement. “As for the one who cuts the ties of relation; Allah will
cut His mercy from him … “Who so ever performs a recommended prayer in
this month Allah will keep the fire of Hell away from him … “Whoever
performs an obligatory prayer Allah will reward him with seventy
prayers [worth] in this month. “And who so ever prays a lot during this
month will have his load lightened on the day of measure. “He who
recites one verse of the Holy Quran will be given the rewards of
reciting the whole Quran during other months.

“O People!
Indeed during this month the doors of heaven are open, therefore ask Allah
not to close them for you; The doors of hell are closed, so ask Allah to
keep them closed for you. During this month Shaytan (Satan) is
imprisoned so ask your Lord not to let him have power over you.”

A Reminder for us all.. let us try and do the best we can inshAllah..
There are so many blessing Allah has placed before us,
so why not take advantage of this and help enable ourselves to strive to please Allah..
and follow the blessed practices of our Prophet Muhammed SAW
as he is the best example in all aspects anyone can ask for as guidence.

A calm breeze lands
On careful artistic hands
Pens, brushes and elaborate colors lay
Awaiting their master to assign their role to play

In each masterpiece, they dance as he mixes them well
To carefully send out the message he wishes to tell
And what other song but the song of faith would
Bring them to sway to the rhythm of soul and thereafter, freeze there for good

The message in his artistic work preaches
The same that the messenger of Allah teaches
An art that strives to make Islam reach the minds of unknowing folk
In a unique form–pleasing to the eye and to the mind, provoke

A spiritual spark sets a fire
In this artist’s heart that drives his hand by a pure desire
Which took it to the path of Islamic art
A passion was discovered – the bull’s eye met the dart!

However, at times he felt that he shouldn’t bother
And lingered about the idea of pursuing his hobby–till came his mother
She supported and encouraged her son’s passion
For truly she was a woman of great compassion

And time would pass as the artist grew
Many a masterpiece–he drew
Some are hanging in the dwellings of others
While others were donated to support his poor sisters and brothers

His first name Farhan, in Arabic means ‘in delight’
And his surname, Noor, means light
May the Almighty give this artist the full potential
To make his works, with His Blessing, effective and influential

Ameen

Alhamdulillah, studying at university, pursuing my art recieving lots of orders taking part in lectures and oraginsing teams its difficult to juggle time and balancing it and prioritising. I have had quite a few orders that I have been unable to complete due to work and other responsibilities. Allah has blessed me so with all this work to do and I handle it the best I can.

Recently I was able to donate a few paintings for charity at an event and they raised £1300 or so for the people in Palestine. This alhamdulillah puts a smile on my face, because I only do this for Allah. And thats the only thing i desire is doing everything for the sake of Allah.

Yesterday I recieved a call from a nursery teacher who wants some work done in her classroom amoungst others and in their playground. This would be a project and we were dicussing the matter of cost, I told the sister, the only cost would be for the materials really. And alhamdulillah this plan should go through inshAllah.

So yeah, I completed an order a few days ago, and the bro was very happy with the outcome as was I, Its one of my favourites, but otherwise, thats all iv been up to, university work, working, doing my art and participating in cirlces to learn more about islam.

People ask me where I get my inspiration from, how I carry out such techniques, what materials I use, where I work, all of which are valid questions and I do my best to answer inshAllah.

Alhamdulillah my art has now reached a stage where whilst studying is hard to keep up with. Currently persuing a degree in Product Design, most can tell the work entails alot of coursework, well its all based on coursework weather it be practical or sitting at my computer modelling or at my desk drawing, creating innovative designs. Its what we as designers do, we think of things that others need, or in most cases take for granted.

I have always had a passion for design, anything that is more or less got something to do with design entrigues me so, and makes me look further into. Buildings, paintings, objects, interior and exterior decor, all entail design. Design is something this world evolves on. Being both an artist and a designer, inspiration can be found anywhere, its the way our minds work.

When I paint, its not like I sit down to plan out what I am going to paint and sketching ideas as I do for my university degree, to some extent yes, if I stumble across an idea of something that may look nice in a painting, ill sketch it. Weather im on the train, bus, at unversity, but thats not how an artist thinks, yes that is how a designer is required to think, but art is something derives from both the heart and the mind, Passion really.

Rather then sketching the idea, usually ill go straight to the canvas and do what needs doing. Its rather difficult to explain, its like I step into a zone where if the idea comes at the same time with precision and care, I will express my feeling and portraying an image to show what I have inside of me. And in everything I do it all comes down to Love, Love for Allah. Showing Islam as beauty with its harmonious text and scripture but also deep within each piece of art is a meaning. Islam can be analysed and looked at in soo many different ways but to really go into deriving the way the text is written and then showing its meaning from what is around on the canvas, is what I do as a Muslim artist. I can paint, colour anything I want, but the joy i recieve from creating pieces of beauty with such thought provoking and devine scriptures is an inner spiritual feeling I have being a Muslim.

The techniques I use to an extent are of my own making and combinations. Now id love to tell you all but thats telling, haha, so I cant do that, but as you may know im an Aerosol Artist, so with all artisits there is a flow with materials that are and can be used. Thats all I can say really.

Where do I work, well apart from studying at university, my art, I do at home. I have a studio where I have been given a great oppertunity to express and explore my passion. If it wasnt for my mum who pushed me to getting myslef into gear I wouldnt have got where I am so quickly. It helps as she has a passion for this as much as I do, so consulting with her is a great help.
